Create your first brain

Name, address, and the questions worth answering before you upload anything.

September 22, 20261 min read

A brain needs three things to exist: a name, an address, and somebody to own it. Everything else can be added later.

The front door, where a new brain starts

The address is the part to think about

The address is how a brain is linked, shared and embedded, and it is not easy to change later without breaking links people have already sent. Short, lowercase, and recognisably about the person or subject.

Before uploading anything

Two questions worth answering first, because they decide what the brain is for:

  1. Who is going to ask it things? You, your colleagues, or strangers on your website. The answer changes what you should feed it.
  2. What should it refuse to answer? A brain that will be asked about your company's pricing needs different material from one that is asked to explain your research.

A brain with no documents answers nothing at all. That is by design, and it is the state every brain starts in.
